Welcome to 2009! Here we are, in a new year, and of course, there are some new records on the horizon. Here are some releases that I’ll be looking forward to in the upcoming year:

  • The Mighty Mighty Bosstones have said they’re working on a new album, the first album of all-new material since 2002′s A Jackknife To a Swan. It’s been preceeded by a 7″ single featuring them covering “The Impossible Dream” b/w a new song “Next to Nothing”
  • British synthpop duo the Pet Shop Boys have said that their follow-up to 2005′s Fundamental will be coming out this March.
  • Reel Big Fish are dropping an album of covers in January, before releasing their new album in the second half of ’09
  • Morrissey‘s Year of Refusal drops on us in February
  • Streetlight Manifesto claim that the first album (an SM release) in the “99 Songs of Revolution” project will come out this year. Sure, Tomas.
  • Banner Pilot are hard at work on a new album; according to their Twitter, they have 12 songs recorded so far
  • Mitch Clem’s punk project the Tigermilks have a 7″ coming up in the near-ish future, consisting of covers of Belle & Sebastian songs done in a pop-punk style. Having heard their take on “Get Me Away From Here I’m Dying,” I’m very excited
  • Local (Boston) ska-punkers the Have Nots are releasing theit debut record, Serf City USA, soon
  • Texas-based Girl in a Coma are releasing their sophomore effort
  • Ben Weasel of Screeching Weasel fame is throwing down a live album, called The Brain that Wouldn’t Die
  • Speaking of Ben, he’s getting back together with Danny Vapid for a new album from the Riverdales
  • Bomb the Music Industry! are releasing a new album, for free as usual
  • Long-lived New Hampshire pop-punks The Queers are working on a new album, along with a couple of split 7″ records
  • The Pilfers have said they’re working on songs for a new album, due this year
  • O Pioneers!!! have a full-length, entitled Neon Creeps, coming out on Asian Man Records

That’s all I can think of off the top of my head. Got anything coming out in 2009 that you’re stoked for? Let me know!
